Drayton Hall Curator of Education and Museum Programs, Amber Satterthwaite, takes you on a deep dive into Charles Drayton’s diaries to discover new details about the lives of enslaved people at Drayton Hall.
Join Amber as she shares her research of Charles’s diaries (1784-1820) and what kinds of information she collected from his writings. Charles mentioned more than 190 enslaved people in his diaries and recorded all kinds of information about them from his point of view. You’ll learn about individuals, families, and the many jobs—some highly skilled—that were being performed by enslaved people across Charles Drayton’s properties.Â

Drayton Hall's main house and landscape are open to the public weekly Wednesday through Monday from 9 am to 5:00 pm (gate closes at 3:30 pm). CLOSED on Tuesdays. The gate will accept no cash transactions.
