George Edwards Red-winged Blackbird

$325.00
QTY

The red-winged blackbird is migratory songbird found in most of North and much of Central America. The male, as depicted by Edwards, is all black with a red shoulder and yellow wing bar, while the female is a nondescript dark brown. Edwards' drawing was copied from Mark Catesby's original depiction made in the 1720s while in America and later published as plate 13 of volume one of his The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands (London, 1731-1743). A second watercolor rendering of this red-winged blackbird was part of the original portfolio.
