The drawing of three hummingbirds could quite possibly be sketches of the Black-bellied green hummingbirds that Edwards discusses in part one of his A Natural History of Uncommon Birds and illustrates in plate 36. The black-bellied hummingbird is found in Costa Rica and Panama, as it favors subtropical or tropical climates. The two hummingbirds were made available to Edwards to sketch by James Theobald, Esq., and Taylor White, Esq.; Edwards noted that America only produces these Birds, and chiefly between the Tropicks[sic].
