The northern house wren is a very small songbird with a native habitat ranging from Canada to the southern United States; the fact that it is the single most common wren may account for its apparent exclusion from Edward's Uncommon Birds as well as Catesby's The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands.
