The Palmetto Bug is often an unwelcome guest in Charleston. Jewelry designer and fourth-generation Charleston native, Mini Hay, says "In Charleston you look up and see steeples and look down and see cockroaches; they are a part of our city." Taking inspiration from the Holy City's resident pests and Edgar Allan Poe's famous story "Goldbug", Mini gilded the bugs, elevating them to an art form that is proudly worn by Charleston residents and visitors alike.
