Candy Shop Vintage designer Deidre Zahl fell in love with the long flapper-style beads from the 1970s in her many visits to vintage shops and flea markets looking for inspiration for her own jewelry designs. She bought them only to discover that they were known as Charleston Rice Beads. The shape and texture of the beads were similar to Carolina Gold rice grains, the primary cash crop of the South Carolina Lowcountry for nearly two centuries.
The 5' strands are perfect for double looping as a traditional necklace, or wrapping to make a unique bracelet. These beads come in a draw-string pouch and and include an insert telling the Charleston Rice Bead story.
